2020 was a challenging year for everyone, leaving people feeling increasingly disconnected. Rather than filling people's screens with a sea of sameness, encouraging them to buy more objects and things, we focused on the idea of "togetherness." It was a year when many people might not have had the option to connect with loved ones in person, and we wanted to use our technology to bring people together as best we could.

A Holiday Reunion

37 years after E.T. first came to Earth, we brought him back in a nostalgic short-film over the holidays centering on technology's ability to connect us. It was essential to keep the integrity of the story, so we partnered closely with Steven Spielberg ensuring that the mini sequel would be everything the audience would hope it to be.

Aspercreme was in need of a new positioning—one that was all about empowering a community of pain sufferers to fight back and not allow pain to dictate their lives. Different from your typical arthritis advertising that often features grandparents gardening or pushing grandkids on swings, "Kick Pain in the Aspercreme" redefined the arthritis and pain categories by bringing in action, zest, and vibrant energy.

Outride ADHD

One out of every nine schoolchildren is diagnosed with ADHD. And while we don't have a cure, Outride is funding research into how riding a bike can help with symptom management. Their program, Riding for Focus, has worked with dozens of middle schools to make riding an everyday part of these kids' lives, and they've expanded to 20 more. As holiday window displays from big name retailers were unveiled across storefronts in New York City, PayPal took a different approach to 2019's festive window displays by featuring small businesses making a big impact in the world. With big-box stores and algorithm-based online retailers making it harder and harder for small businesses to compete, PayPal shined a spotlight on thoughtfully made gifts from impactful small businesses to help holiday shoppers give with heart during the holiday season.
